What is Chiropractic Care?
The term Chiropractic was first used in 1895 by Daniel David Palmer
the founding father of modern chiropractic. The name has its roots in the Greek
words "hand" (Cheiros) "done by" (Praktos). The term
Chiropractic was used to describe a method of treating the bodys ills by
altering the relationship of the bones (vertebrae) of the spine. When the
relationship between vertebrae is disturbed (subluxation) the nerves that lay
between them are irritated. This change in nerve transmission causes symptoms,
which may range from slight tingling through to extreme pain.
Using spinal adjustments, Doctors of Chiropractic restore the function of your
spine. By doing this they gently free your nervous system to allow your body to
coordinate and heal more effectively; you are better able to reach your maximum
health potential and have a greater experience of life.
Adjustments are the procedures Doctors of Chiropractic use to improve the
function of your spine and relieve interference to your nervous system. There
are many different ways of adjusting. Chiropractors adapt their techniques to
suit people of all ages. All adjustments consist of very specific low pressure
or low force applied to the spine or pelvis.
By comfortably correcting subluxations, removing interference to your nervous
system, your body is able to coordinate and heal more effectively. Reduced
tension on spinal nerves, muscles and joints results in greater ease and well
being. Many people report an increased clarity of thought, more ease in their
body and life and an improved ability to adapt to stress following
adjustments.
As you progress through the healing process your defence systems - largely your
bodys ability to "clean house" - will become stronger, which
can also result in symptoms becoming temporarily more noticeable. Some people
may experience emotional releases as nervous system tension decreases. During
the process of spinal correction you may notice old aches or pains surfacing.
This is common and it occurs as you use your body more fully on your journey
through old distortion patterns and on to more vibrant health.
Chiropractic management aims to improve your health naturally so that your body
can perform at its optimal level.
